Healthcare presentation design for a Northwell Health company — this is what three years with MD Onboard looks like. But with an idea taking shape. A Northwell Health initiative designed to bring world-class emergency medical expertise directly to the aviation industry. The concept was strong: connect flight crews anywhere in the world with aviation-trained paramedics and physicians, in real time, in over 150 languages. What they needed was a design partner who could help them communicate that vision — to airlines, to investors, to their own board — from the very first slide to the annual report. That engagement began in 2022. It has not stopped since.

MD Onboard is a Northwell Health company — part of one of the largest health systems in the United States, with 76,000+ employees across 21 hospitals and over 900 outpatient facilities.

Challenges

Most design briefs have a clear scope. MD Onboard was different. When we started, the company was still defining its positioning, identifying its first airline partners, and figuring out how to articulate a service that sits at the intersection of healthcare, aviation, and technology. There was no established design language for what they were building — because nobody had built it before.

The brand existed on paper. What didn’t exist was brand in use — the systematic, consistent application of that identity across every touchpoint a company actually needs to operate: presentations for different audiences, investor materials for different rounds, internal communications, external marketing, and everything in between.

The challenge was not just to make things look good. It was to build an entire visual communication infrastructure for a company that was growing in real time, entering a category it was effectively creating, and presenting to some of the most demanding audiences in the world — airlines, hospital boards, and investors connected to one of America’s largest health systems.

Solution

Our work with MD Onboard covers more ground than any other engagement in Next Figures’ history. Over three years, we have functioned less as an agency and more as an embedded design team — one that understands the company’s strategy, speaks its language, and delivers across every format the business demands.

The first thing we built was the story. Before any deck was designed or any collateral was produced, we worked with the MD Onboard leadership team to clarify their positioning — what makes a Northwell Health-backed medical advisory service the right partner for a commercial airline, and how to say that in a way that a pilot, a CEO, and a hospital board member could all understand. That narrative became the foundation for everything that followed.

Brand in Use
MD Onboard had a brand identity. What they didn’t have was a system for using it — consistently, across formats, at scale. We built that system. Typography hierarchy, colour application, layout principles, slide templates, document frameworks, social media grids. Every output we produced added another layer to a growing visual language that the whole company could use.

Pitch Decks and Investor Presentations
From early-stage conversations about the company’s potential to formal investor relations presentations backed by Northwell’s infrastructure, we designed the materials that put MD Onboard in front of the right rooms. Each deck was built around the specific audience and objective — a fundraising conversation looks and reads differently from a partnership proposal, which looks and reads differently from an annual investor update. We built all of them.

Board Presentations and Annual Board Meeting Collaterals
MD Onboard reports into Northwell Health’s governance structure, which means board presentations at the highest level. We designed the annual board meeting materials — both print and digital — built to the standard a major US health system demands. Structured, precise, and polished enough to hold the room.

Airline Partnership Presentations
Winning an airline as a client means presenting to people who have seen every vendor pitch in the industry. We designed the partnership decks MD Onboard used to approach commercial and business aviation operators — materials built to establish credibility, demonstrate operational capability, and make the case for a service category that many airlines hadn’t yet considered.

Marketing Collaterals
From brochures and one-pagers to exhibition materials and leave-behinds, we produced the full range of marketing collateral a growing B2B company needs. Each piece was designed to work independently and as part of a coherent system.

Internal and External Communications
Design work for MD Onboard extended beyond client-facing materials into the internal life of the company — meeting templates, internal briefing documents, training materials, and communications frameworks that kept the brand consistent whether the audience was a flight crew or a hospital executive.

Social Media — LinkedIn and Beyond
We have managed the visual production of MD Onboard’s social media content across LinkedIn and other platforms — designing posts that reflect the seriousness of the brand while communicating in the register that social audiences expect. Healthcare meets aviation meets professional credibility, in a format that performs.

Website Updates and Blog Content Design
As the company evolved, its website needed to evolve with it. We supported the web presence with design updates, page layout work, and visual production for blog content — keeping the digital experience consistent with everything else we had built.

What Makes This Engagement Different

Most of our projects are defined by a single deliverable. MD Onboard is defined by continuity. We were there when the company had no visual system, no investor materials, and no established market presence. We are still there now. That kind of engagement requires a different kind of working relationship — one where design decisions are made with full strategic context, not just a brief.

For a company operating at the intersection of emergency medicine and aviation, communicating clearly is not a nice-to-have. When you are presenting to a Northwell board or pitching a partnership to a global airline, the quality of your materials is a direct signal of the quality of your organisation. That standard has never dropped in three years of working together. We intend to keep it that way.

The Result

Four years in, MD Onboard has gone from an idea within Northwell Health to an operating company with airline partners, an active investor relations programme, and a design language that works across every format the business touches. The brand in use system we built in 2022 still underpins every piece of communication they produce today.

This is what a long-term design partnership looks like. Not a single project with a clear end date, but a working relationship built on understanding — of the business, the audience, and what it takes to communicate at the level a Northwell Health company demands.
